The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the Graduate Center, CUNY is pleased to celebrate the tenth anniversary of PRELUDE, a festival dedicated to artists at the forefront of contemporary New York City theater and performance.
As it has done for the past decade, PRELUDE.13 will feature an array of artists working in theatrical, interdisciplinary and mediatized performance, giving audiences a survey of the current New York moment via in-process presentations, open rehearsals, and discussions — all completely free.
Featuring 600 HIGHWAYMEN, Andrew Ondrejcak, Andrew Schneider, ANIMALS, Anne Washburn, Annie Baker, Aaron Landsman, Big Art Group, Big Dance Theater, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Cesar Alvarez and Sarah Benson, Chris Tyler, Cynthia Hopkins, Daniel Fish, Elastic City (featuring Todd Shalom and Niegel Smith), Erin Markey, Jay Scheib & Co., Jerome Ellis and James Harrison Monaco, Jim Findlay, Kate Valk, Katherine Brook / Tele-Violet, Kippy Winston, Kristine Haruna Lee, Mallory Catlett / Restless NYC, Max Posner, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Neal Medlyn, PearlDamour, Rebecca Patek, Royal Osiris Karaoke Ensemble, Sibyl Kempson, Taylor Mac, The Assembly, The Institute for Psychogeographic Adventure, United States Department of Arts and Culture and Woodshed Collective.
PRELUDE is a festival of local artistic process, celebrating the unique creative forces that live and thrive in this city. PRELUDE.13, subtitled FORWARD, will be a place to discover what voices, ideas, and debates are colliding to shape the future of contemporary theatre and performance in NYC. In celebration of the festival’s first decade, PRELUDE.13 will also recognize and reflect on the community of artists, audience, scholars, and other participants who have contributed to a decade of discourse. We invite you to join this community again or for the first time to observe, engage, commune, and critique.
Curated by Caleb Hammons (Associate Producer, Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College) in association with Frank Hentschker (Executive Director, Martin E. Segal Theatre Center).
