We regret that Fernando Arrabal is unable to join us due to health complications. This event is dedicated to his impressive body of work and invaluable contributions to theatre, art, film, and literature. We wish him all the best and a swift recovery.

Fernando Arrabal (born 1932), is a Spanish playwright, screenwriter, film director, novelist and poet who settled in Paris, forming the anarchic  Panic Movement with Alejandro Jodorowsky and Roland Topor there in 1962. This second generation Surrealist group took inspiration from Luis  Buñuel and Antonin Artaud to create spectacular happenings and theatrical events with the goal of employing Surrealism to explore  fundamental, primal concerns, following the dilution of the movement into mainstream culture. A celebration of the carnivalistic and provocative work created by Arrabal, Performa and CUNY’s Segal Center will host an evening at the Bowery Poetry Club, featuring poetry, cabaret interventions, and impromptu performances, as part of Performa 13. Celebrating the  bohemian atmosphere and adventurous spirit of Panic Movement, this surreal evening will feature unexpected juxtapositions,  confounding non-sequiturs, raucously liberated psyches, and the thrill of risk.

Co-presented by Spain Culture New York- Consulate General of  Spain and Performa as part of Performa 13 in collaboration with the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center and the Bowery Poetry Club. Organized by Marc Arthur, Charles Aubin, Mel Gorden, Águeda Sanfiz, and Frank Hentschker.

Presented as part of Performa 13. For ticket reservations and updated information: performa-arts.org or www.theSegalCenter.org
